Other Equipment - By virtue of grants from Imperial Oil along with proceeds from our Shows, we have a microscope, a rock splitter, a computer, a projector, a fluorescent lamp, a Geiger counter, and a camera - all which enhance our experiences with rocks and fossils.

And all available for borrowing (usually a month at a time).

We also now have walkie talkies & traffic triangles - all designed to enhance safety on our field trips.

“A lapidary (the word means "concerned with stones") is an artist or artisan who forms stone, mineral, gemstones, and other suitably durable materials (amber, shell, jet, pearl, copal, coral, horn and bone, glass and other synthetics) into decorative items such as engraved gems, including cameos, or cabochons, and faceted designs.

There are three broad categories of lapidary arts. These are the procedures of tumbling, cabochon cutting, and faceting.” from Lapidary - Wikipedia

We have members who do all three!

Even though right now, we’re not running a formal group about lapidary - we do have some members who do lapidary on a regular basis.

Of course, we’re looking for a Lapidary & Facetors Guild Convenor. Interested????

Even if you’re brand new - perfectly fine!!! We can all learn together.

If you’d like to contact us about lapidary, please send us an email.

Lending Library - accessible to all our members - we have an excellent choice of books, magazines including the Mineralogical Record, videos, DVDs, and maps about geology, minerals, lapidary, fossils, etc. Borrowing is easy - just come to one of our meetings - the library will be open!
