NPGS Niagara Peninsula Geological Society

The Pink Dolomite Saddle

is the official newsletter of the NPGS.

Our newsletter catches NPGS members up on what’s happening, meetings, field trips, gem & mineral shows and sales, conferences, plus the latest news in geology and palaeontology including any of our own “discoveries” and treasures and anything else of general interest.

The newsletter comes out monthly from September through June.

If you wish to submit an article, pictures, or anything of interest to the NPGS, please contact our Newsletter Editor, John Tordiff.    John needs submissions by the end of each month for the next installment.

The symbol shows up when a newsletter is available.

Brian Dear - at our Annual Auction in May 2014 - pointed out to Patti Anderson (our Past President) this particular specimen was a fossil - a tiny, tiny fossil.

Patti collected it at Hungry Hollow in 2012 - but because the rock is very fine-grained and coloured pearl-grey, it very likely is not native to Hungry Hollow.

What’s likely is that someone else collected it - then either discarded it or dropped it by accident at Hungry Hollow - and Patti picked it up!

SERENDIPITY!!

ROM paleobiologist, Dave Rudkin, has kindly let us know that this is likely a Devonian Bryozoan (moss animal as well as a marine animal).
